Disputing the Esoteric Gospel

Disputing the Esoteric Gospel

The central theme of the latest Esoteric Gospel circulating online in 2025 is a old Gnostic-style philosophy that rejects the revealed Word of God and replaces it with a supposed “coded” wisdom within the self, ultimately teaching that humans can become divine. This is the oldest deception in the book, going back to the serpent in the Garden of Eden: “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5).

The Real Word of God is Not a Secret Code

The Esoteric punters teach the real word was never meant to be read. It was coded into you implying that we all have this hidden wisdom within us.

  • The Truth of Scripture: This completely undermines the clear, revealed nature of God’s communication. The Bible is not a secret code for an elite few. It is God’s revealed Word, written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ). It is meant to be read, studied, and lived (Joshua 1:8 ). The Psalmist wrote, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105 ), not a hidden spark waiting to be found within.
  • The Real Word of God is a Person: The ultimate “Word of God” is not a book or an inner code, but Jesus Christ Himself. The Gospel of John begins: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1 ). He is the clear, objective, and ultimate revelation of God to humanity, and His life, death, and resurrection are recorded for all to see in the Holy Scriptures.

The Authority of the Canonical Gospels

The entire Esoteric argument rests on quotes from the non-canonical Gospel of Thomas, often suggesting its sayings were “removed from the Bible because they are a formula… for turning a human being into a divine being.”

  • The Canon is Not a Conspiracy: The New Testament canon (the books of the Bible) was not a conspiracy to “bury wisdom.” It was confirmed by the early Church based on clear, historical standards: apostolic authorship/connection, consistent teaching with the Old Testament, and widespread acceptance by the churches. The Gospel of Thomas, a text from the Gnostic tradition, was excluded because its teaching—a salvation by secret knowledge (gnosis) rather than by faith in Christ—was fundamentally incompatible with the apostolic message.
  • The Bible is Sufficient: The canonical Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) contain the full, authorized account of Jesus’s life and teaching. They explicitly state their purpose is so “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31 ). The core teachings are clear, not hidden.

The True Path to Divinity: Adoption, Not Alchemy

The central error is the belief that a human can become a “divine being” or “a god” through “spiritual alchemy” and integrating one’s “shadow.”

  • The Doctrine of Sin: This esoteric view ignores the reality of sin, which is not an “unlived life” or a “shadow” to be integrated, but a moral rebellion against a holy God. We are separated from God not by amnesia, but by our trespasses (Isaiah 59:2 ).
  • A Gift, Not a Formula: The Bible teaches that human beings, through faith in Jesus Christ, are reconciled to God and become His adopted sons and daughters (Galatians 4: 4-7 ). We are given a new nature through the Holy Spirit ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ), and we are called to be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29 ). We are not turned into God, but we are made like Him in righteousness and holiness through a divine miracle of grace, not a self-help “formula.”
  • The True Kingdom of God: The Kingdom is indeed “at hand” (Matthew 4:17 ), present in the person of Jesus and among His followers, but it is also a future reality that will come in its fullness. It is a relationship with the King, established by His sacrifice, and it is entered by repentance and faith, not by simply “seeing” the mundane.

The Gospel: The Real Light

I want to tell you the real news, the true, liberating, and non-esoteric Gospel of Jesus Christ:

  1. God is Holy and Just: He created us in His image, but we are all separated from Him by our sin (Romans 3:23 ).
  2. Jesus is the Only Way: God, in His immense love, sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man (John 3:16 ). He lived a sinless life and then, on the cross, He bore the full, just punishment for our sin. He died to pay our debt (Romans 5:8).
  3. He Conquered Death: Jesus did not merely “raise the energy in his body,” as the teaching suggests. He was bodily resurrected from the grave by the power of God, definitively conquering sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:4 ). This is the real, historical resurrection—not a metaphor for inner awakening.
  4. Salvation is by Grace Through Faith: You do not have to perform “inner work” or decode seven secret codes to be saved. Eternal life is a free gift (Romans 6:23 ). You receive it by placing your faith in Jesus Christ—believing that He is the Son of God and that His death and resurrection are sufficient to save you (Ephesians 2: 8 ).

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God”

The Real Word of God calls you out of the deceptive shadows of self-worship and into the glorious light of Christ’s perfect love and redemption.

Do you want the “god code” or the real God who saved you by His love? He is not an impersonal force waiting to be ignited, but a loving Father who is calling you to repentance and life in His Son right now. The Bible is open to all. Christ’s salvation is free to all. Why choose a hidden, difficult, self-reliant path when the clear, simple, and powerful path of grace is available?

I urge you to turn away from Esoteric Gnosticism and pick up a Bible, starting with the Gospel of John, to meet the real Jesus Christ.
